Narrative Lectionary -- New Testament Week Eight -- John the Baptist -- Go Tell John -- 1030 version

Luke 7: 18-21 -- Go Tell John

John the Baptist has sent his men to see Jesus and ask him, if he is the one.  Jesus answers pointing to the ideas of trusting his senses and affirming John the Baptist focus on Fruitfulness.

Luke 7: 18-21 -- Go Tell John but more than that.  It is a moment of inviting John the Baptist to "trust" and advocating a ministry focused on fruitfulness.

January 29th, Ministry Moment -- Barbara Moeller

 

Barbara was a Interfaith Hospitality Network client several years ago.  IHN is now Family Promise but it is still providing the kind of love and Grace that Barbara addresses here.  This is a reflection on what it is like to be homeless.  

Narrative Lectionary -- New Testament Week Six -- Peter makes himself vulnerable

 

This is from Psalm 90 and Luke 5.  

Emily Flemming and I are trying a little different approach.  We are going to read the other's scripture before the sermon with a teaching moment.  

This reflection is more from the Luke than the Psalm, but it gets to both.  I have been talking a little about Emotional Intelligence (EQ) of Jesus and how he has done, and offer Peter up here as a good example of how he has made himself open to the idea of possible change, and from that, a new vocation.

We come back to the Luke 4 14-30 Passage a second time and build off of the where we were in Advent.  That sermon offered that Jesus knew who he was ... here he is inviting the congregation to expand the scope.

A little riff here on the idea of "New Year's Resolutions" and play with that.  This is Luke 2: 21-36 (or so).  Simeon and Anna -- their resolve.  

Narrative Lectionary -- New Testament Week One -- Advent 4 - Luke and Mary

 

Luke 1: 25-46 or so.  This is Mary meeting first the Angel Gabriel, and then her cousin. I think it is interesting that she is perplexed before Gabriel offers the potentially scandalous portion of her task.  Aren't we often perplexed when we are told we have found favor in God's eyes.   

Narrative Lectionary -- Week Thirteen -- Advent 3: Isaiah 61 (and 59) meet Jesus in Nazareth

 

Advent 3 -- and we start to bend the arc of the biblical narrative towards Jesus through the eyes of Luke.  This is Jesus first sermon and it will get him in trouble.  He looks to Isaiah 61 (and 59) to find his voice.  

Narrative Lectionary -- Old Testament Week Twelve -- Joel and Advent 2

 

Joel 2 with two separate passages.  This was keyed quite a bit from the anthem Lost in the Night.  The hymn is a plaintive call to Jesus to hurry and come again, soon.
